Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt needs to stop an uncontrolled AI called The Entity from starting a nuclear disaster. He has to get the source code from the sub and from a “poison pill” device that Gabriel is holding. Old foes, new friends, and tough decisions mean that Ethan and the Entity are the ones who decide the fate of the world.

In this eighth version of the Mission: Impossible series, Ethan Hunt has to shut down a dangerous AI called The Entity following the events of Dead Reckoning Part One. He is required to mix the source code with a specific pen drive contributed by Luther and given to him to avoid setting off a nuclear disaster. Even so, it won’t be easy to use. The code is in the remains of the submarine, and the villain Gabriel has the poison pill and aims to gain control of it.

Its audience has grown into a cult due to the film’s impressive action, smooth editing, attractive cast, and amusing moments. Still, the latest effort from director-writer Christopher McQuarrie is slowed down by a confusing plot and uneven way of telling the story. In the beginning, the film moves more slowly, as it is mostly about explaining things and talking. Even though the plot includes big themes such as nuclear dangers, rogue individuals, and chases around the world, the finished product rarely meets expectations.

A number of the sequences are truly impressive, for example, the wrecked submarine track—Ethan’s solo adventure in the submarine amid chaos is exciting and looks great, but it goes on too long and ends up being repetitive. The same is true for several other moments in the film.

The way the story is told is inconsistent because of the vast amount of information given during the film’s nearly 3-hour run. Unlike the earlier games, this one feels more serious because of its darker atmosphere.

There are still plenty of moments during the movie that keep the audience tense. Apart from the submarine mission, the sequel follows Ethan while he attempts to get the poison pill from Gabriel, and also his team fighting their own obstacles.
